Efficient, Oxygen-Free Heat Transfer for SMT Assembly

IBL’s Vapour Phase Soldering process transfers thermal energy through the condensation of a high-quality heat transfer fluid (Galden® PFPE fluid), suiting soldering temperatures from 160°C to 260°C for SMT components and beyond.

• Very High Heat Transfer Coefficient – Condensation-based heat transfer reaches 500–700 W/(m²·K), far exceeding forced-air convection (40–120 W/(m²·K)).
• Peak Temperature Uniformity – The fluid’s boiling point physically caps the process temperature, so there is no risk of overheating and no DeltaT across components.
• Oxygen-Free Process – The vapour is heavier than air and creates an inert atmosphere automatically, without the need for nitrogen.
• Low Energy Consumption – The high thermal capacity of the condensing vapour delivers efficient, homogeneous heat-up with minimal energy use.
• SVP – Soft Vapour Phase – Patented technology offering up to 20 vertical positions to effectively control the heat transfer, adjustable during the soldering cycle.

Patented, Void-Free Soldering

Developed since 2001 in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute, IBL’s patented InVapour Vacuum Technology places the vacuum chamber directly inside the vapour phase process area.

• Direct, In-Process Evacuation – Product evacuation begins immediately after the product reaches peak temperature, with no loss of time or temperature.
• Significant Void Reduction – Creating a vacuum atmosphere during the solder paste melting phase measurably improves the quality and reliability of the solder connection, ideal for BGAs and QFNs.
• Fully Inert, Adjustable Process – The process remains fully oxygen-free, with adjustable parameters for the vacuum step.

• Economy Line – MiniLab, SV260, SV540 – A compact entry point into vapour phase soldering.
